Jez came back from Japan
and has now toddled off to NZ for a while...

Pics all gradually being moved to the gallery. Big pics, small pics, any size pics you want. Lots of luvverly pics, get your fresh pics 'ere, etc...

Pics of the Wellington protest against the war in Iraq, big or small. Huge turnout despite the start of the America's Cup. At that was a tad depressing too, the Kiwi boat broke (twice) and nearly sank.

And while I wouldn't call myself a socialist, I'd agree with this assessment of what's wrong with England. Yup, its the Lord of the bastard Rings.

Pics from our Xmas hols, up in the sunny North. Presented as a 370 kb page with all the big pics, otherwise small with thumbnails.

I'm planning on staying for at least a while. Wellington has damn fine views and possibly the best biking in the world. And mountain bikers. So I've mainly been biking, kitesurfing, sailing, playing hockey and having so much fun I keep expecting someone to tell me to stop it.

The whole place here is just so much better than the UK. In fact, I'd like to invite everyone I like over here. We've a house in Pukerua Bay with a spare bedroom or two and you don't want to know how little it cost.

Japan was lucrative, Phil says it better than I can.. The Japanese launch program is a large, expensive and frequently explosive disaster, but hey, it was a laugh. I got to play with SRL in Tokyo, pics at Eddie's site. Then I popped back to Blighty, mainly to get a proper curry. Hell, I even had a proper job too, with this lot where I spent most of my time working on the performance of solid modelling software. But it wasn't to last.

This site is currently a total mess. I keep having too much fun doing other things.

So, here:

  1. In Tsukuba, I was working on brazing in microgravity and brazed joints in rocket nozzles at NRIM. So I was officially a rocket scientist.
  2. My thesis abstract, on the laser welding of aluminium alloys.
  3. My current list of publications.
  4. The table of contents from my thesis.
There:

  1. Where I did my thesis work, the Joining Group of the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, in the University of Cambridge. The department is officially known, throughout Japan, as Harry's place.
  2. About the only fun things to do in Cambridge: skate hockey and skating around.
  3. The Mountain Unicycling pages are currently in a heap and my unicycle is on a ship somewhere between here and there. Anyway, try Roger's place. Now with added C2C.
  4. NZ is perfect for mountain unicycling. I did the Karapoti Challenge and Cateye 24 hour Moonride with the unicycle.co.nz crew. It hurt, but the Mk I carbon muni is still doing the job.
  5. Elsewhere, the Cambridge University Cycling club club was fun.
  6. The CUCC MTB trip to the Czech Republic.
  7. The CUCC session at the 98 BUSA MTB championships.
