Cracking on…

It’s holiday time! Which of course means we’re working on the house. We’re wanting to get it liveable as soon as we can. Thus this week means finishing off the earth floor and then plastering everything in sight.

Our wonderful discovery is pavelock sand – sweep it into the gaps between the earth blocks, quick bit of ramming, pour water in, bingo, it sets and we’re done:

Well, “done” means that we’ve three blocks to replace and some more cracks to fill, and then the whole lot gets covered in clay slip, then linseed oil, then wax, but hey, progress towards this end is being achieved!

In other news, the 4500 litre rainwater tank arrived. It has to go down the gully and then up the other side. We got it down. Up can wait for a winch.

On the plus side, you don’t have to water the roof today!

(It’s also handy that it’s basically weather tight, so y’all can work inside. And plastering is typically well along the “nearly liveable” scale, even if there’s still A Bunch Of Stuff To Finish ™.)
